Institutions that house and support research programs are uniquely positioned to advance the open sharing of data. Research managers at these institutions play a pivotal role since they steer institutional policy, strategy and infrastructure development.

Today, we have released a new briefing paper that speaks directly to these influential figures, and provides insights into the breadth of benefits open data brings institutions, as well as an overview of the OD policy landscape in Europe, and concrete steps institutions can take to support OD internally.

“We see how influential research managers have been in other pioneering institutions that have embraced open access and open data practices,” said SPARC Europe Executive Director Vanessa Proudman. “We’re eager to share what’s been learned to date to help other research managers looking to advance open data practices.”

The brief, titled “The Value of Open Data to Research Institutions”, was produced as a collaboration between SPARC Europe and the Digital Curation Centre.
