Recommendations for universities
- Have your library establish an Institutional Repository (IR) with necessary resources and support to pursue optimal communication and promotion
- Develop an Open Access or publishing policy
- From a Pasteur4OA Open Access global policy analysis conducted in 2015, the following three OA policy recommendations were made for higher IR deposits:
- Mandate researchers to deposit
- Do not allow the waiving of deposits
- Link IR content to research evaluation
- Encourage researchers to publish in Open Access journals or books. See DOAJ for a reliable journal list or see DOAB for a recent list of Open Access books.
- Establish an Open Access publication fund for covering article processing charges (APCs)
- Get the same organisation, e.g. the library, to manage both the Institutional Repository (IR) and the Current Research Information System (CRIS) or merge them as at the University of Edinburgh
- Strive to make research management use the content deposited in the repository for research assessment as at the University of Liège
