Daily management and implementation of the strategy are the responsibility of the European team:
Vanessa has over 20 years’ international experience working with many leading university libraries worldwide. She also headed information and IT at a UN-affiliated international research institution in Vienna for 10 years.
She has also been programme and project manager to Europeana.eu
As the owner of Proud2Know, a consultancy that supports academic libraries, Vanessa also helps her clients create the skilled and innovative digital libraries of the future.
As Director to SPARC Europe, Vanessa is responsible for developing and implementing SPARC Europe’s Strategic Plan. She is working to make Open the default with Europe’s other Open Science organisations.

Brigitte Vézina, Policy Advocate
Brigitte Vézina is a policy adviser to SPARC Europe helping to secure positive changes to the draft EU Copyright Directive, the PSI Directive and Horizon Europe to support Open Access and Open Science. Brigitte is an international intellectual property law consultant at Brigitte Vézina – Law & Culture, She is also a fellow with the International Law Research Program at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), where she is analyzing the international intellectual property protection of cultural heritage. Past experience includes a decade as legal officer at WIPO, working on intellectual property and cultural heritage issues, as well as copyright and trademark-related work at UNESCO in Paris and with the Montreal-based intellectual property law firm Robic. Brigitte holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B.) from the University of Montreal (2002) and a Master’s in Law (LL.M.) from Georgetown University (2005, with distinction). She is a member of the Quebec Bar (2003).

Angela Walseng has a decade-and-a-half experience in communications, and has spent the past several years working in Open Access publishing. She has worked extensively with researchers, universities and research institutes and funding bodies.
At SPARC Europe, her focus is on communication and knowledge exchange activities between SPARC Europe and its partners, networks and stakeholders.
